Our Story – Cherry Mouth Roasters

At Cherry Mouth Roasters, coffee is our craft—but people are our priority.

We're a family-owned business built on a deep love for quality coffee and an even deeper commitment to exceptional customer service. Every bag we roast and every cup we pour is driven by a simple belief: how you treat people matters. Whether you’re a wholesale partner, a café regular, or someone stopping by for the first time, we aim to deliver an experience that’s honest, warm, and human.

A Family-Owned Business

My passion for coffee started back in 2008, when I moved back to Melbourne after living overseas. It felt like everyone in the city was drinking coffee—and soon, so was I. I quickly noticed the difference between a great cup and a terrible one.

At the time, I was a home beer brewer. But when I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, I knew it was time for a change. I swapped hops and barley for green coffee beans and started sourcing from local importers. Eventually, I imported my first roaster—a 500g sample machine from North Coffee Roasters in China.

From that point on, I was hooked. I needed to understand every part of the process. Along the way, I was lucky to be mentored by some of the best:

  • Scott Rao – whose world-class knowledge of roasting, and ability to explain it clearly, shaped the way I roast today.
  • St. Ali – where I learned that even with great beans, you still need great barista skills to make a great cup.
  • Craig Simon – who, while I was roasting at Criteria Coffee in 2020, generously shared his passion and insights. I learned so much in a short time thanks to Craig.

A Home for Cherry Mouth

In May 2021, in the middle of a global pandemic, Cherry Mouth Roasters opened its first warehouse in Williamstown North. It was a shared, no-frills space—but it was ours. Gritty, full of potential, and the start of something we believed in.

Today, we have a permanent home at:
13/19 Export Drive, Brooklyn, right in the heart of Melbourne’s inner west.

Every Saturday from 8am to 12 noon, we open our doors to the public. These mornings are the highlight of our week—real conversations, real questions, and real connection over coffee. There’s much more to come at this space, and we’re excited to grow it with the community.

Built on Service and Community

We believe great customer service is the foundation of everything we do. It’s not an add-on—it’s the core of our business. Whether we’re supplying wholesale clients, training baristas, or serving locals at the roastery, our goal is always to make people feel looked after, respected, and part of something meaningful.

That’s why, when Chapter One Café in Brooklyn was impacted by a fire two doors down, we didn’t hesitate. Even though they don’t use Cherry Mouth coffee, we offered them our roastery as a temporary space to trade from. To us, it wasn’t about business—it was about community, and doing the right thing when people are in need.

Supporting Local

Growing up in a small rural town taught me the importance of looking after your neighbours. That’s why we source high-quality Australian full cream milk from local farmers—it complements our coffee beautifully and supports the families and communities behind each litre.

Coffee is a never-ending learning process, and that’s what I love most about it. It continues to challenge and inspire me, and reminds me that good things take time, effort, and heart.

At Cherry Mouth Roasters, we’re not just here to make great coffee. We’re here to serve, support, and grow something that truly matters.
