Why Has Coffee Gotten More Expensive?
— A Note from Cherry Mouth Roasters

If you've noticed a rise in the price of your favourite bag of Cherry Mouth coffee, we want to be open about why that’s happening. We're committed to roasting exceptional coffee with integrity — and part of that is being transparent about the costs behind every cup.

🌱 What’s Driving the Price Increase?

1. Climate Disruptions at Origin

Unpredictable weather in key coffee-growing regions — including drought, frost, and heavy rains — has affected both yield and quality. Countries like Brazil, Colombia, and Ethiopia have seen challenging seasons, which reduces the global supply and drives up costs.

Here in Australia, we’ve seen similar climate difficulties — with floods in some areas and droughts in others. These kinds of extremes remind us just how fragile agricultural systems can be. Let’s hope for more stable and friendly weather ahead, but unfortunately, it’s one of the few things out of our control.

2. Higher Costs for Coffee Farmers

Producers are now facing higher expenses for essentials like labour, fertilisers, fuel, and equipment. At Cherry Mouth, we pay premiums to support ethical, sustainable farming — especially when small-scale farmers are feeling the pressure.

3. Shipping & Logistics Pressures

The cost of transporting coffee from farm to roastery has risen sharply over the past couple of years. Global freight delays, fuel surcharges, and port congestion all contribute to increased delivery costs — especially for specialty coffee, which often requires careful handling and storage.

4. Currency Shifts & Inflation

Because coffee is traded globally (usually in USD), exchange rate fluctuations can have a major impact on the final price. Inflation has also raised the cost of everything from packaging and labels to energy used in roasting.

☕ Why This Matters

At Cherry Mouth, we’re not about shortcuts. We work with trusted partners who care about quality and sustainability as much as we do — and we roast every batch to bring out the best in every bean.

Maintaining this standard means adjusting prices when necessary, rather than compromising on ethics or flavour. When you choose our coffee, you're supporting a long chain of good choices — from the farm to your cup.

Thank you for your continued support. We’re proud to roast for you.
